Jamar Montgomery, 30, was given more than a dozen charges, including several drug-related offenses, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced on Thursday, Feb. 22. He was arrested in a two-week-long investigation at Freedom Village off Massachusetts Avenue in Toms River.
Investigators said Montgomery used a home on Dream Court to store and sell narcotics. The county prosecutor's office and Toms River police began surveillance on the home on Thursday, Feb. 8.
Detectives saw Montgomery leave the home and drive a vehicle out of the apartment complex. A state Motor Vehicle Commission inquiry found that his driver's license was suspended.
Toms River police officers tried to stop Montgomery's vehicle but he started driving recklessly and went onto the Graden State Parkway North. Montgomery was charged with eluding and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police executed a search warrant at the Dream Court home that evening. Detectives found about 10 grams of crack cocaine, two wax folds of heroin, an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, 31 grams of marijuana, drug-distributing paraphernalia, and about $4,850 in cash. A second arrest warrant was issued for Montgomery.
Montgomery was charged with possession of less than one-half ounce of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of less than one-half ounce of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of less than one-half ounce of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of one-half ounce or more but less than five pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and financial facilitation.
Detectives saw Montgomery enter the Dream Court home again on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Police tried to arrest him while leaving the home but he ran back inside.
He eventually surrendered to police and was arrested. A second search warrant was executed on the home and Montgomery's vehicle.
Officers found more marijuana and narcotics-distributing paraphernalia. Montgomery was additionally charged with possession of more than one ounce but less than five pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest by flight.
Montgomery was held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
